Butler (R-NY) Exploring Exploratory Committee for 2026 Congressional Campaign

ALBANY, NEW YORK, July 4, 2025 – Dr. Nick Butler, a 32-year old progressive Bull Moose Republican, announced today the exploration of the formation of a formal exploratory committee to consider a run for Congress in New York’s 20th District.

“We all know the Democrat Party is out of touch,” Dr. Butler said. “But as a Bull Moose, I’m able to admit that both parties are in need of serious reform. That’s why I’m thinking of maybe seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for Congress. Together — yes, with your help — I truly believe we can fully reclaim the Party of Lincoln.”

Dr. Butler is expected to face swift criticism from both Washington and Albany’s Establishment Republican Party Leaders for his previous involvement with the Democrat Party. In a preemptive response, the prospective candidate has stressed his collegial demeanor, record of true independence, and even pointed to past personal interactions with President Donald J. Trump.

“President Trump and I have always maintained a friendly relationship, though as with many of the President’s relationships, it has been strained at times,” Dr. Butler said. “We’ve corresponded on a number of occasions across the busy years so I expect he will be pleased to hear that I’m a Republican now, and considering a run for Congress. I’ll certainly seek his endorsement — and I look forward to hearing from him soon. Together, I am sure we can WIN BIG.”

Dr. Butler is expected to make his decision later this year as he carefully considers the potential viability of a Congressional candidacy.
